Description . Rare Trophy Skull from the Marind-Anim people living around the Bian River Region of Southern PNG. The Marind-Anim people practised headhunting and decorated skulls with shells to cover the eyes, mouth and nose as a protection against evil spirits. For the villagers the trophy skulls symbolised status and bravery in headhunting and were connected to ritual and spiritual beliefs. A highly unusual and striking trophy skull from PNG.
