Description          . This Message Stick was bought  along with several others from a Maryborough Museum that closed in the 1980’s. All were very old and a number pre-contact. Churinga were the Representation or manifestation of a mythical being and a ritual object, usually made of wood and occasionally stone. These formalized symbols are a sort of mnemonic device, which elders use to tell the story of the ancestors’ tracks through the landscape and also represent the tracks of totemic beings. Very old and showing signs of wear.
