Description          .  A Heavy Northern Queensland Aboriginal Rainforest Sword Club. Collected Early 1900 in Cairns Area by Grandfather of seller. The Club handle has lost most of the Beeswax resin off the handle and the wrapping and only remnants of beeswax remain. The hole was made later for a wall hanging display. Rainforest Clubs can be of the curved variety or straight bladed as is this example and attached photo’s (1890) courtesy Cairns Historical Society. The swords were used with one hand stretched over the shoulder, with the sword hanging down the back. the sword was swung forward , with a sudden jerk, to strike the enemy.
