Description .Mendi Stone Axe early to mid 20th Century and well used as can be seen on the stone head. Stone was a frequently traded item from the Highland areas of New Guinea to the coastal areas (where there was virtually no stone) and generally exchanged for shells. This axe is a particularly pleasing shape with the length of the shaft being 16″ and the length across the top 15″ including the stone head.
