Description .Stone Adze from the Brazza River region of Papua, New Guinea. These stone adze were used extensively in PNG in the days before steel axes, for carving and hollowing of wooden items particularly canoes. The adze has been ochred over much of its length and has an unusual heart shaped tip at the top of the shaft.
