CG22 Central Desert Beanwood Shield 1960’s

Description          .  Central Australian shields were made from a light soft wood mostly oval shaped and used to deflect spears or blows from boomerangs in conflict situations. This shield does not have a central handle but these were sometimes attached seperately. The grooves or fluting is typical of the treatment of the outer surface of shields in the central desert regions. Size is 56cm (22″) by 21cm.
