Description . Very Good Asmat Shield with great Carving. Shows signs of extensive useage and is a nice original example collected late 1950’s early 1960’s. The pattern features several Flying Foxes (fruit eating bats) and this is a reference to Headhunting as the Asmat view fruit as analogous to the Human Head so fruit eating animals such as bats are featured. There is also a great pattern on the back (reverse) and a full spine running the full length which again indicates an early shield.
