Description . Bark Painting by famed Aboriginal artist Narritjin Maymura (1916-1981) from Millingimbi, Central Arnhem Land. Subject = Totemic Figure natural earth pigments on eucalyptus bark, possible subject: Ngapalilingu, Ancestral Spirit Woman of the Manggalili, 1960s. By the early 1960s he had become one of the most prolific and renowned Yolngu artists. After decades of work he and his son in 1979, became visiting artists at the Australian National University. He died of a heart attack in 1981. His time in Camberra became the subject of a documentary film by Ian Dunlop titled Narritjin in Canberra His works are displayed in many Australian Galleries and Museums.
